Keep the Streak

58 weeks. I had a streak! What did that represent? When Sunday rolled around, I would make sure I had logged a ride before the day was done. This meant something. This represented I had a habit. I was pretty proud. I’m a little embarrassed to thing of how I found a way to inject it into a conversation every now and then. Until I lost the streak. It’s been a few months and I have struggled to get back to consistency. It takes a lot more effort to get started and I am nowhere close to being back at it.

I currently have a 2 week streak. It is okay, but it is also time to reset and restart. There is a reason there are so many books about habit! My favorite is Atomic Habits. Every page was such an aha moment even though it simultaneously seems to obvious. Whether you want to use an app tracker like Strides or a written checklist, streaks matter. Streaks motivate. Even if you lose your streak like me, reset and restart.

“ALL BIG THINGS COME FROM SMALL BEGINNINGS. THE SEED OF EVERY HABIT IS A SINGLE, TINY DECISION. BUT AS THAT DECISION IS REPEATED, A HABIT SPROUTS AND GROWS STRONGER.”
