Balance the Curve PT & Pilates FAQs

1. Do I need a referral to start Physical Therapy?

No - in most cases you can start PT without a referral. We'll walk you through everything you need to get started.

2. What will my first PT visit look like?

Your first session includes a detailed evaluation, movement testing and hands-on treatment. You'll leave with a personalized plan and a clear understanding of what's next.

3. How long will it take to feel better?

Most clients start to feel a difference within a few sessions, but timelines vary. We'll set clear goals with you and keep track of your progress every step of the way. 8-12 visits is the average treatment plan.

4. I've never done Pilates before- is that okay?

Absolutely! Many of our clients are beginners when they start. We'll guide you through everything and tailor your sessions to your comfort level and goals.

5. Is Pilates safe if I have scoliosis or a history of back pain?

Yes- and that is our specialty. Our instructors are trained to modify exercises to keep you safe, supported, and feeling better every session. You will want to let your instructor know from the start. If you are concerned about pain limiting you - start with PT, then do individual or duo sessions. That will make a smooth transition to groups or you can continue to advance your training with individual sessions if that fits your needs best.

6. if you're new to pilates or already in a practice looking to advance.

Private sessions offer fully personalized instruction and are great if you're new or rebuilding after an injury. They are also great if you are experienced with pilates and want to improve your technique working at a more advanced level. You can also book a private session with a friend (duo). Our small group classes (max 4 people) provide instruction & support while challenging you to continue to advance in your practice.

7. What equipment do you use in your Pilates studio?

We use Balanced Body Studio and Rialto reformers, towers, and exo chairs. We have a professional grade Yoga Wall as well as CoreAlign. This variety allows us to offer both challenge and support, depending on your needs.

8. How often should I come to see results?

Most clients feel noticeable improvement with 1-2 sessions per week. We will help you find a rhythm that fits your goals and your schedule.

9. Do you take my insurance?

We accept BCBS insurance only for Physical Therapy services with a self pay rate option of $150 for PT. We can not do PT with patients who have Medicare primary as they require you see one of their in network providers for all PT services.  Insurance does not cover Pilates training or classes.

10. What exactly is scoliosis specific care?

Our scoliosis care incorporates the Schroth Method & Scientific Exercise Approach to Scoliosis (SEAS). It is not generic stretches, but instead a method that involves curve instruction, torso shaping, targeted breathing that can be applied with exercises specific to your curve as well as do daily function.
